The Voice of the Fish travelled far and wide to tell its story. A story that was heard across Europe. Scroll down to relive its journey and the messages told.
The making of the Voice of the Fish sculpture
Watch Jared Bartz, an expert wood sculptor, through his creative process as he designs and creates the Voice of the Fish sculpture – the face and voice of this movement. The Seas At Risk’s #VoiceOfTheFish campaign is an art action organised in collaboration with BUND, Sciaena, Ecologistas en Acción, and France Nature Environnement to raise awareness of the threats to the ocean and marine life caused by destructive fisheries.
From Germany to Luxembourg…
down to France…
The Voice of the Fish wood sculpture called to bycatch of dolphins in La Rochelle, a port city in France. Every year in the Bay of Biscay, thousands of dolphins are unintentionally caught and killed in fishing nets. The Voice Of The Fish campaign is organised by Seas At Risk in collaboration with France Nature Environnement, BUND, Scieana, and Ecologistas en Acción to raise awareness of the threats destructive fisheries have on marine life, ecosystems, and the ocean.
over to Spain…
The Voice of the Fish sculpture journeyed to Vigo, Spain to spark important conversations on how humans should respect the environment and the sea. The weekend’s events reflected on fishing practices and disasters of the past and imagined a future of low impact fisheries.
and back home to Portugal
After travelling across Europe, the Voice of the Fish wood sculpture returned to the sea in Sagres, Portugal. On each stop of its journey, it highlighted the impacts of destructive fisheries on the ocean and marine ecosystems: overfishing, bycatch, ocean pollution... The epic journey has come to an end, but the fight to protect the ocean wages on.
